The Village, set in parkland, is approximately 20 minutes walk from the busy High Street shopping centre in Eltham. The accommodation is open to students from all campuses as well as those based at Avery Hill (It is 6 miles from Greenwich). The university operates some inter-site buses between campuses. Public transport by bus is available between Avery Hill and Greenwich (journey time is approximately 40 minutes). The campus is protected by CCTV and the university has 24 hour security staffing based at the main gatehouse.

Accommodation comprises shared flats and maisonettes for between four and nine people and in total over 1,200 students live on this site. Each flat has its own well-equipped lounge/dining room/kitchen with cooker, fridge-freezer and microwave as standard. Entry-phones are fitted for each flat and some have balconies with views over the park. Each study/bedroom has its own small fridge and data connections for free access to the university network, Internet and e-mail. Half of the rooms also have en-suite shower/toilet facilities.

The Village complex includes 'The Dome' which houses a new gym as well as a restaurant and café. For more information about joining the gym, visit the Sports site.

The student village is situated on the Southwood site, one side of the park, along with some of the teaching facilities. Much of the teaching takes place on the other side of the park – a short walk away – on the Mansion site. The buildings that make up the residential Village are arranged in seven Courts – named after Henry VIII and his six wives because of the nearby Eltham Palace, childhood home of the king and Greenwich itself, his birthplace.

Aragon, Boleyn and Seymour Courts offer single study/bedrooms in flats with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities - mostly for 4 or 5 students, but with some maisonettes containing 6 or 7 rooms. Cleves, Howard, Parr and Tudor Courts offer single study/bedrooms, each with en-suite shower/toilet facilities in flats with shared kitchens. The majority of flats are shared by 6 students, but Tudor Court flats are larger and offer space for 9 in each and are therefore priced at a lower rate.

Although the university tries to honour the preferences of students when allocating rooms in halls, students gaining places in the Village will not necessarily be guaranteed a room in a particular Court in the first instance - much will depend on the needs of all of the students applying (including those who request single-sex environments, mixed flats or those with special medical or other requirements) and our attempts to ensure a good community.

Car Parking

The University has approved a Green Travel Plan for Avery Hill and this includes a charge to park your car on the campus. This is to be effective Monday to Friday between 9am-5pm and is due to start on 1st September 2009. A special rate is available for residents in the Village, but a permit must be purchased to authorise parking. Further information and an application for student resident parking at the Avery Hill Campus is available at the Avery Hill Green Travel web site.
