Sports and Recreation
Competitive sports teams and clubs at the university are organised through the Students' Union, Sports and Societies Office. Competitive fixtures, either part of the BUSA or SESSA Leagues, are played on a Wednesday afternoon. New ideas for Clubs are always welcome, however bizarre. If you wish to set up a new club then get together with other like-minded people and make your proposal to the Student Union.
The majority of sports teams play out of Avery Hill and training takes place in and around the Avery Hill Campus. On campus facilities include a sports hall with netball, basketball, cricket nets volleyball and 5 a side football, our outdoor facilities include 6 football pitches, outdoor tennis and netball courts.
Being a student at Greenwich means you can get discounted entry/membership to local leisure centres. Our proximity to the capital means that you can witness top quality national and international sport, including international athletics at Crystal Palace, football at various London football clubs and at the new Wembley Stadium, rugby union at various London teams as well as internationals at Twickenham, cricket at the Oval or Lords and of course a prime location for the London 2012 Olympic Games with the O2 Dome hosting gymnastics, and equestrian events being held in Greenwich Park, directly opposite the Maritime Greenwich campus.
We now have a new email address, for all general sports and recreation enquiries please email email@example.com for sports team enquiries please continue to contact the Student Union on firstname.lastname@example.org
Dome GymContinuing the University of Greenwich's investment in student and staff health and wellbeing, the Sports and Recreation Office opened a Gym on the Avery Hill Campus in 2009.
It is located in the Dome in the heart of the Student Village, enhancing student life and meaning that you won't have to walk too far to get to the Gym from anywhere on Campus. You will also be able get a coffee, snack or a more substantial meal in the new refurbished catering facility which is right next to the Gym. It's a great opportunity to get fit and meet up with friends at the same time.
Memberships for new and existing Greenwich students works out at around 26 pence a day and around 38 pence a day for staff! Where else can you get such a bargain and get fit at the same time? It's just too good to miss!
The gym includes brand new, state of the art equipment from Cybex, including cardio vascular and resistance machines and a selection of free weights. In line with recommendations from the Inclusive Fitness Initiative www.inclusivefitness.org the gym will be will be fully accessible throughout and equipment will be accessible by disabled people.
