Inland Waterways - An Under-Utilised Resource Business School

Wednesday 20 March 2013
6pm - 8pm

As freight transport seeks to become greener and more efficient we have an ideal opportunity to avoid congestion and reduce the number of vehicles on the roads by better utilisation of the rivers Thames and Medway and the region's waterways. Regionally, barges currently carry cargoes such as waste, aggregates and fuel with vessels able to transport up to 2,000 tonnes each trip, the equivalent of 80 LGV's. Peter Hugman will explain some of the operational benefits of inland waterways and their future potential and how this region could benefit from its excellent network of waterways.
