The Coming Age of Altruism Book Launch Business School

Wednesday 29 January 2014
5pm - 7pm

The University of Greenwich Business School is excited to announce that Dr Michael Babula will provide an open lecture at a book launch for The Coming Age of Altruism.  The book has been published by Palgrave Macmillan, and in less than two months, has achieved top sales in the United Kingdom, Canada, and the United States. The lecture will take up the debate around altruism and the acceptance in society that self-interest is a healthy guiding principle in life.  Dr Babula will argue that altruism contributes to better states of psychological health that transcend self-actualization.

This seminar will discuss altruism in relation to:

  • Peace psychology
  • Positive psychology
  • Social and evolutionary psychology
  • and psychotherapy

Dr Babula proposes a new paradigm in which Abraham Maslow’s traditional pyramidal hierarchy is replaced with a hyperbolic organization of motivational advancement, and details the research evidence in support of this radical new framework, and its implications for society and business as a whole.

About the Speaker:

Dr Michael Babula is a University of Greenwich Senior Lecturer and author who holds a dual doctorate in psychology and politics, and an MBA in finance. His publications in the Journal of Applied Social Psychology and PS: Political Science and Politics aim to transform the way in which social scientists and business psychologists view human psychological development.  He has taught Applied Social Psychology at Marymount University, USA, Macroeconomics and Microeconomics at Loyola University, USA, and Quantitative Research Methods to postgraduate students at the University of London, UK.

Refreshments and beverages will be served at the event.  After Dr Babula’s presentation, there will be a question and answer session about the book.  Copies of the book will also be available for purchase at a discounted rate and Dr Babula will conduct book signings.
