Dr Alberto Botta holds a BA with laude in Political Sciences at University of Pavia, and a PhD in Economics of Production and Development at University of Insubria, Italy. He attended the Summer School on Latin American economies at the UN Economic Commission for Latin America and Caribbean Countries, Santiago de Chile, and the Summer School on Hyman Minsky, financial Instability and post-Keynesian Economics at the Levy Economics Institute of Bard College, USA.

Dr Botta has been Assistant Professor of macroeconomics at the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, Reggio Calabria (Italy); development economics at Polytechnics University of Milan (Italy); monetary economics at University of Insubria (Italy); international economics at University of Pavia; microeconomics and development economics in the Master Program on Cooperation and Development, Institute of Advanced Studies of Pavia (Italy). Dr Botta teaches economic development and economic integration and international cooperation in the Master Program on Cooperation and Development in the Middle East, Bethlehem University, Bethlehem, Palestinian territories

Dr Botta has been awarded the CEPAL – INET prize for the best paper ("The macroeconomics of the financial Dutch disease") to be presented at the first CEPAL workshop on "Keynes, Schumpeter and Latin American Structuralism".

Dr Botta main research fields are post-Keynesian macroeconomics, in particular as applied to the development problems of developing and emerging economies. More recently, Dr Botta has moved his research interests to the analysis of financial instability issues, the description of the mechanisms characterizing the so-called shadow banking system, as well as the causes and possible economic-institutional solutions of the eurozone economic crisis.
