Tomás Rotta joined the University of Greenwich in September 2014. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, USA; an MSc in Economics and a BA in Business Management from the University of São Paulo, Brazil.

In his research, Tomás specialises in political economy, monetary and financial theory, and history of economic thought. His focus has been on the growth of unproductive activities, the commodification of knowledge, the contending concepts of money, the causes and consequences of income inequality, and contending theories of value and distribution. In his research, he uses heterodox approaches, applied econometrics, economic modelling, and simulation.

Tomás has teaching experience in microeconomics, macroeconomics, game theory, international economics, and money and banking.
