Dr Andres Coca-Stefaniak joined the Business School in 2014 attracted by the quality of teaching and research dynamism, as well as the university's commitment to entrepreneurship, sustainability and student employability.

He is a member of the UK Government's Future High Streets Forum, co-Editor-in-Chief of the International Journal of Tourism Cities and funding bid evaluator on the EU's COST programme for interdisciplinary research in science and technology.
 
His main areas of interest include the management and competitiveness of places (including town centres, high streets and tourism destinations), place marketing & branding, smart cities, smart tourism destinations, and the management of sustainability in events and tourist destinations. Prior to joining the University of Greenwich, Dr. Coca-Stefaniak held academic positions at a number of UK universities, including the University of East London, the University of the Arts London and Manchester Metropolitan University. Dr. Coca-Stefaniak was also founding Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Town and City Management.
 
Dr. Coca-Stefaniak has been Programme Manager for Research, Thought Leadership and International Partnerships at the Association of Town and City Management. He also has 15 years of experience in securing research funding (mainly from the European Union) with a track record of over £2.1 million of funding secured for projects he then managed from start to end. Many of these projects received funding from a variety of EU programmes, including the European Culture Programme (2007-2013), Leonardo da Vinci, Interreg IVC, Interreg VA and Interreg Europe, among others. In addition to these major EU-funded projects, Dr. Coca-Stefaniak has also delivered smaller consultancy projects for a number of local authorities in the UK, Spain and Poland as well as the UK Government's Department for Business, Innovation and Skills.

Dr. Coca-Stefaniak is a member of the editorial board of a number of international journals and a regular reviewer for the Journal of Travel and Tourism Marketing, Tourism Management, the Journal of Destination Marketing & Management, the International Journal of Retail Distribution and Management, the Journal of Place Management and Development, Place Branding & Public Diplomacy and the Journal of Brand Management.
 
Before going into academia, Dr. Coca-Stefaniak worked seven years as a mineral resources engineer for Shell International and Anglo American plc. with direct field management responsibility for up to 35 staff.
