Dr. Hantang Qi joined the Business School of the University of Greenwich in 1998.

He was Editor-in-Chief of a bimonthly journal Young Manager for ten years before he left China in 1994 to pursue his doctorate in Lancaster University Management School. He now sits on the editorial board of the online International Management Journals and Journal of Research Practice (2005-2012). He is the assistant editor of The International Journal of Applied Management. He has published extensively, in Chinese, in journals including Fudan Journal of Social Sciences and has published, in English, journal articles, book chapters, and conference papers in the management field. His English articles have appeared in scholarly journals such as Management International Review, Asia Pacific Business Review and China Report.

His research interests are in the areas of strategic management (particularly strategy formation/formulation) and international business (particularly China-related management issues). He has been researching strategic issues in China's township and village enterprises (TVEs), such as how strategy is formed/formulated, how guanxi (Chinese concept of networking) works in enterprise development. He is keen to extend his China-related research to issues related to other countries, particularly transitional and/or emerging economies, for example, the strategy of multinational enterprises (MNEs) or joint ventures in these countries.
