Clearing

Still want to go to Uni?

Clearing is now closed for this academic session and will reopen again in July 2010. To view the programmes that we currently offer please visit either our Undergraduate prospectus or our Foundation degree section.

What is Clearing?

This is the final opportunity before the start of the academic year in September 2010 that will allow you to apply to higher education. Greenwich can make you an offer of a place to study if you meet three conditions.

  1. You have not accepted any other offer made by any other university.
  2. You know your grades or points achieved at both level 2 (GCSE) and level 3 study or have alternative qualifications and relevant life skills.
  3. The grades, points or other qualifications you have attained meet our entry requirements

It’s as simple as that!

When does Clearing begin and how can you apply to study?

Early Clearing starts on 1st July 2010. If you already hold your L3 results (you may have taken a GAP year!), or you are offering alternative qualifications with appropriate life skills, you can call us and make an application over the phone on: 0800 005 006 or email us at clearing@gre.ac.uk, tell us that you would like to apply and we will send you a Clearing application form by return. You can also visit the Enquiry Unit at the Greenwich campus and apply in person.

Main Clearing begins on 19th August 2010, when level 3 results are received by most 6th form and college students. If you have already applied for a place at university and did not get the grades or points required for your firm or insurance choice you will be eligible to apply for a place through Clearing. Clearing is an electronic process for applicants and you must confirm your clearing offer using UCAS track.

UCAS Adjustment

What can you do if you have received your offer of a place to study from another Higher Education Institution (HEI) but you've now changed your mind about where you want to study?

If you meet the entry criteria of your first or insurance HEI your offer of a place will be confirmed.  But from this year if you achieve better grades than expected you are also allowed to shop around for 5 days safe in the knowledge that if you don’t find a place you prefer elsewhere, you still have your original offer.

The benefits are obvious, it’s a bit like searching for that pair of Jimmy Choos or K-Swiss but holding on to your Clarks or Nike just in case (or vice versa, for comfort!).  You may decide that moving to Newcastle is not such a good idea after all, or you may just change your mind about studying the subject at your original choice of HEI.

Whatever you decide to do, the choice to change or not is yours, the UCAS adjustment period gives students an added element of security ensuring they don’t lose out.
