School Entry Requirements - School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences

For all BSc Hons programmes in the School of Computing & Mathematical Sciences, 200 UCAS points are required from subjects studied to A-level or equivalent. Additionally, all applicants should have GCSEs at grade C or above in English and mathematics (or equivalent qualifications, such as Key Skills at level 3).

The following exceptions apply:

  • For BEng Hons Software Engineering, BEng Hons Embedded Computer Systems and BEng Hons Computer Systems and Networking requirements are a minimum of 220 points from subjects studied to A-level, or equivalent
  • For MEng Hons Software Engineering and MEng Hons Computer Systems and Networking requirements are a minimum of 300 points from subjects studied to A-level, or equivalent
  • Applications to BSc Film & Television Production are judged on an individual basis, but typically applicants require 280 points from subjects studied to A-level or equivalent and must include some studies in a relevant discipline such as Film, Television, Editing, Art, Photography, Media or English.
  • All programmes involving Mathematics or Statistics, and also BSc Games Technology, require 200 points at A-level or equivalent and at least 60 points from a Mathematics A-level, or equivalent;Alternatively, if you have a good background in maths but do not meet this requirement, you may be invited in for an advanced maths test.

The School welcomes applications from students taking Access to Higher Education courses and the normal entry requirement is to pass an approved Access to Computing, Mathematics, Science or Engineering course (although students taking other access courses will be considered sympathetically). For degrees involving mathematics or statistics (including Decision Science) the pass must be on an Access to Mathematics course. Typically applicants require 45 credits at level 3, but in all cases applicants are advised to give a detailed list (and the level) of the units studied, on your UCAS form.
