Child Development Combined Degrees

Child development and childhood are emerging academic disciplines of increasing importance. There is widespread recognition that the experience of childhood is highly significant for children and their lay and professional carers. The study of child development draws on a range of foundation disciplines including psychology, physiology, sociology and anthropology. The fusions of elements from these disciplines have been drawn together to provide a multidisciplinary holistic perspective on childhood.

First year studies include an introduction to the concepts of childhood and to child development. Issues addressed in second year studies include childhood autonomy and rights, the social world of the child while in the final year, the student has a choice of studies including contemporary issues in child and adolescent development, contemporary parenting and recognising children at risk.

Child Development courses are taught by the School of Health and Social Care at the Avery Hill Campus. Depending on your selected combination you may be required to travel between campuses.
