Career options
An MPA degree is a good foundation for a career in the public sector, for a provider of public services, or for a campaigner for improved public services.
The programme provides those currently working within the public sector, and those who work closely with public services, an opportunity to explore the changing nature of the public sector and the ways in which public services can be strengthened.
The programme takes European and international perspectives on public services and uses comparative approaches to understanding different systems. There are opportunities for students to reflect on practice and draw on their own specific country or sectoral experiences.
A 10-day placement in a public services setting forms part of the programme.
Aims of the programme
- To provide students with the knowledge and skills needed to deliver public services in different settings
- To develop the analytical, critical, creative and intellectual skills that are required to deal with the changing demands and political pressures involved in delivering public services
- To provide students with a conceptual approach and transferable skills that can be applied in a wide range of settings, thus enhancing the student's employability
