This is an innovative programme for students who are interested, or already working, in a health-related field. It equips students to be effective in a variety of health-related contexts, both within institutional and non-institutional settings, as well as voluntary agencies. The programme provides students with the opportunity to obtain an academic degree, either studied on its own or as part of a combined honours degree.
The philosophy of the programme is based on the assertion that health is the ability to adopt positive responses to the different challenges which arise during people's lifetimes. These challenges can be inherent and/or external and the wider determinants which impact on individual health outcomes are recognised.
The programme examines the varying concepts of health, including biological, psychological and sociological viewpoints, and ensures study is placed in local, national and international contexts.
