Research strategy Faculty of Education & Health

The Faculty of Education & Health is unique in housing areas of expertise from STEM and non-STEM disciplines with strong working relations with the local community and services. We have a history of carrying out specific and multidisciplinary activity across a range of research and enterprise contexts including the delivery of training and CPD. We are now building on this by hosting and facilitating networking with external partners and developing social enterprise as well as continuing to carry out basic and applied research in education, health, psychology and social care and policy.

The main goal of the faculty research strategy is to carry high quality research that has an impact on science, policy and practice and that reflects and supports university strategy and objectives.

Our main objectives are to:

  • Design and conduct research that contributes to the development of theory, has important applications and is recognised by peers as excellent and support staff in achieving targets relating to the faculty objectives
  • Work closely with partners in the local and wider community including (but not exclusively) charities, local authorities, NHS, schools, and voluntary associations, industry and business
  • Increase the number of staff who are research active and support staff to complete postgraduate research degrees where these are not held and in other research and enterprise activity
  • Support existing and recruit and retain new talented research active staff (including ECRs) with evidenced based potential to excel as evidenced by attracting research funds, publishing highly rated publications and supporting postgraduate research students
  • Further build on our growing population of excellent postgraduate research students on our PhD programmes
  • Integrate research and evidence based practice into teaching across the faculty and at all levels from undergraduate to postgraduate
  • Continue to develop our national and international networks, publish in high quality publications and attract external funding in order to carry out research
