Jane Stokes Faculty of Education & Health

Jane Stokes is a Senior Lecturer for Speech and Language Therapy in the Department of Family Care & Mental Health at the University of Greenwich.

Jane joined the university in 2006 and leads on two modules for the PGDip Speech and Language Therapy programme, run collaboratively with Canterbury Christ Church University. Since 2015, Jane also leads a newly developed MA Healthcare Practice programme.

Her focus of interest is the developmental language difficulties in children with a special clinical interest in bilingual children, to lecture on communication disorders and safeguarding for a range of different nursing and childhood studies courses, as well as professional development in speech and language therapy, outcome measurement and evidence based practice.

Jane has taken the lead on developing the Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT), South East regional hub, positioning universities at Medway at the core of the community of practice for speech and language therapists. RCSLT membership activity is since involved in a working group looking at clinical supervision in speech and language therapy.

She has a particular interest in technology enhanced learning and together with colleagues and service users, has developed a range of video resources to support teaching and learning about communication difficulties. 

Jane is a Link tutor and visits students on placement with colleagues who practice locally. She has successfully bid for two projects to support the training of health visitors on adult-child communication, and has taken the lead in establishing and running these projects with colleagues.
