Karl Steptoe is a Senior Lecturer for Psychology in the Department of Psychology, Social Work & Counselling at the University of Greenwich.

Karl joined the university in 2013 as lecturer and also programme lead for MSc Sport & Exercise Psychology and MSc Sport, Exercise & Performance Psychology (Dual award) in partnership with Lillehammer University College, Norway. In these programmes he is course coordinator for Social and Cognitive Processes in Performance, as well as lecturing on Research Methods and Statistics over various levels across BSc Hons Psychology and BSc Hons Psychology and Counselling programmes.

He is a Chartered sport and exercise psychologist (British Psychological Society) registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). In this role Karl works across sports including football, golf and athletics and has created a partnership between the University of Greenwich and the Tennis Foundation/Lawn Tennis Association to supply consultancy services and conduct research activities with wheelchair tennis players through to the Paralympic Games in Rio, 2016.

Karl's PhD research was understanding of skill breakdown under pressure in sport through motivation and attention processes. Studies looked at the cognitive experiences of elite and recreational sportspeople in competition and the neural activity patterns of elite performers under pressure.
