Phyllis Cripps is a Senior Lecturer for Social Work in the Department of Psychology, Social Work & Counselling at the University of Greenwich.

Phyllis joined the university in 2007 a part of the social work team and is course coordinator on Human Growth and Development for Social Work Practice on both BA Hons and MA Social Work programmes; and Social Work Theories, Methods and Approaches for Social Work Skills on the BA Hons Social work programme.

Her other responsibilities include professional practice placement support; project/dissertation supervision; facilitating personal tutor groups and organising work shadowing. She also leads on managing the service user and carer input for both programmes and facilitating the service user group meetings.

Her professional background in social work practice is primarily with children and families. A combination of residential work with special needs children and field work practice both generically and with children and families, provides a range of social work experience contributing to her teaching.

Phyllis worked as a manager and child protection officer for twelve years, chairing multi-disciplinary child protection conferences across a large London borough, and providing quality assurance of the child protection system throughout the whole borough.

She contributed to the professional development of staff within social services at all levels, and the allied professions in health and education by providing supervision, training and consultation on an ongoing basis. Phyllis has enabled continuous professional development through internal and external training and education throughout her career as a social worker. She would supervise numerous students both qualifying and post qualifying, and staff members at all levels, contributing to their education and professional development.

Phyllis is committed to providing a very good quality teaching and learning environment for the students and maintaining excellent professional standards within social work.
