University backs Chatham Maritime Food & Drink FestivalThe main sponsor of the 2015 Chatham Maritime Food & Drink Festival is the University of Greenwich at Medway, it has been announced.

It is the second time that Chatham Maritime has staged the family fun three-day riverside event, which is expected to attract thousands of local people and visitors to Medway.

This year's festival, from 23 to 25 May, has free admission and will be a major celebration of the best of local food and drink with entertainments for all ages.

Following last year's success, the 2015 festival will once again include Dragon Boat Racing, organised by Medway Sunlight Rotary. Teams competing this year will be trying to top the £5,000 raised for charities in 2014.

Professor Martin Snowden, Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Greenwich at Medway, says: "We are delighted to be able to support this major event, which so many local people in our community and visitors can enjoy along our superb riverside.

"We are also really looking forward to taking part in the festival and showcasing the work of our many students and researchers who contribute so much to the sustainable development and production of food and drink at home and across the world.

"Much of this work is led by the teams in the Faculty of Engineering & Science and its Natural Resources Institute, which are based at the Medway Campus."

The University of Greenwich is no stranger to food festivals and held a Sustainable Food Fortnight across its three campuses at Medway, Greenwich and Avery Hill earlier this year.

The university is an accredited Sustainable Fish University and was named as Maritime Stewardship Council University of the Year 2014.

Vic Hazell, organiser of the Chatham Maritime Food & Drink Festival, says: "Foodies and festival goers who enjoyed the first Chatham Maritime Food & Drink Festival urged us to stage another this year, and we can't wait to bring it back.

"This time, the riverside at Chatham Maritime will see even more delicious food and drink stalls, more talented bands and more all-round family fun - all adding up to an amazing event for a whole day out."
