Engineering ConferenceHow to control multiple robots with artificial neural networks and teach chemical engineering in a virtual lab are just two of the research topics to be presented at a University of Greenwich conference on Tuesday 6 June.

It is the second time the university's Faculty of Engineering & Science has staged a Systems Conference to highlight the research being done by its academic staff and PhD students.

Other research topics on the conference programme include using coconut fibre for living green walls, evolutionary robots, machine learning for voice recognition and the spiritual dimension in recovery from alcohol dependence.

The conference is being held at the university's Medway Campus at Chatham Maritime. It is open to all university staff and students as well as interested members of the public.

The wide-ranging event will be chaired by Professor Mike Bradley, of the Faculty's world-renowned Wolfson Centre for Bulk Solids Handling Technology.

The programme of presentations and posters has been put together by Senior Lecturer Dr Marianna Ercolino, and Caroline Chapman of the Wolfson Centre.

Dr Ercolino says: "The presentations and posters cover diverse subjects but they all have systems engineering and sustainability at their heart. Alongside chemical engineering and robotics, the conference will look at challenges in materials science, bulk materials handling, artificial intelligence, financial engineering and mathematical modelling.

"Our aim is to demonstrate the scope of our research and build communication and collaboration within the Faculty of Engineering & Science as well as with staff, students and researchers from other Greenwich faculties."
