Materials and Analysis Research Group

Materials and Analysis Research Group

The group focuses on the development and elucidation of new materials and the study of advanced properties of existing materials from the chemical, biological and natural disciplines.

Strengths of the group include novel materials for energy conversion and storage, surfactants and polymers, biomedical materials, computational chemistry and natural materials. We have particular analytical expertise in the application of a wide range of molecular and atomic techniques to real world, applied problems. Techniques available in house include NMR, inorganic and organic mass spectrometry, Raman and ICP spectroscopy, a wide range of thermal methods, electron microscopy and x-ray diffraction. We are also regular users of national facilities such as those found at the Diamond Light Source. The group also hosts the Analytical Services Laboratory which acts as the focus for commercial projects.
