Anna obtained her BEng with Hons in Engineering and Management in 2009 followed by a PhD in Civil Engineering from the University of Bradford in July 2013. Following that Dr Anna Romanova joined the University of Greenwich as a Research Fellow in Civil Engineering Department in 2013, where later in 2014 she started a new role as a Lecturer in the Department of Technology Management and Enterprise.

Prior joining the University of Greenwich, she was working at Grontmij Group Ltd (2007-2008) as a Project Engineer in Water Department dealing with fire, potable and wastewater infrastructures mainly on acting Royal Air Force sites as part of the contract with the Ministry of Defence (£2B). As a research associate at the University of Bradford she was working on two EPSRC projects titled: Sewer Condition and Blockage Detection Classification Using Novel Acoustic Instrumentation (£195k); and Sonic Characterisation of Water Surface Waves, Turbulence, Mixing and Bed Friction in Shallow Water Flows (£796k).

She has published 15 papers in prestigious journals and international conferences, was invited as a chair at 2 conferences, as well as contributed to patent application (GB081519905) and assisted in commercialisation of SewerBatt™ sensor for pipe line condition inspection (acousticsensing.co.uk). Additionally she is a member of Institution of Civil Engineering (ICE), Chartered Institution of Water and Environmental Management (CIWEM) as well as holds certificates of Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) and Energy & Utility Skills Register (EURS) - National Water Hygiene.

Anna investigates the corrosion process in buried pipe networks by extended laboratory and field experimental activities including long-term reliable data collection (pH, H2S, CO2, DS, temperature, laser, photogrammetry) which all helps to enchases degradation prediction models and provide an ultimate tool for sewer asset management.

Apart from this Anna studies water retention properties, capillary suction as well as noise and air pollution absorption by a mixture of different soils, substrates and porous materials to be accommodated in Green Wall infrastructure. The aim of the above research is to eliminate the use of pumps and deliver a vertical green panel with low carbon footprint and sustainable benefits of mitigating surface floods, reducing urban noise, enhancing air pollution and improving thermal properties of the building.
