Research/scholarly interests

Ismael Essop is an academic member of the research Centre for Innovative Product Development and Manufacturing (iPDM). He is currently working under the supervision of Professor James Gao.

He is developing his computing expertise in the emerging field of manufacturing informatics. This involves the application of ICT tools in next-generation manufacturing technologies and processes. He is currently involved in a research project to investigate the application of semantic knowledge management within the Power Generation industry.

The project aims to develop a shared understanding of a given domain between a group of geographically dispersed engineers. It will also contribute towards the automatic classification of domain knowledge, and enhance the search mechanisms via the use of appropriate semantic techniques.
