Dr Marianna Ercolino was appointed as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Engineering Science of the University of Greenwich in January 2016. She received her Ph.D in Seismic Risk at the University of Naples "Federico II" in 2014 after which she spent 6 months as a visiting researcher at the State University of Buffalo (New York, USA) in 2014. She gained her Master in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Naples "Federico II" in 2010 with 110/110 cum laude (equivalent to Distinction in British education). She was a visiting student at the University of Ljubljana in 2010 where she worked in the framework of an European project on industrial precast structures. She gained her Bachelor degree in Civil Engineering at the University of Naples "Federico II" in 2008 with 110/110 cum laude (equivalent to Distinction in British education).

Marianna has strong experience as a researcher in Structural and Earthquake Engineering. Her Ph.D dissertation researched seismic performance of precast industrial buildings. She studied seismic vulnerability of these structures by means of nonlinear analysis methods and innovative modelling approaches. Her experience in earthquake engineering was supported by participation in several national projects. She investigated the seismic performance of other structural typology, eg frame multi-story structures. During time spent at the University of Buffalo, Marianna studied the application of non-destructive techniques for corrosion detection in reinforced concrete elements. She worked in the laboratory of Smart Structures, where she developed a research study on acoustic emission techniques.

Marianna has 6 years' experience as a co-instructor in higher education. She taught two courses in the Master of Science in "Structural and Geotechnical Engineering" at the University of Naples from 2011 to 2015: "Seismic design of reinforced concrete precast structures" and "Seismic design of reinforced concrete structures". She was the co-instructor for tutorials in the course "Dynamic of Structures and Earthquake Engineering" from 2011 to 2015. She is currently the principal lecturer of the course "Soil Mechanics" at the University of Greenwich and the co-lecturer of the course "Geotechnics and Geology" for Level 5 (BSc and BEng programmes). In these years she was the co-supervisor of 7 MSc dissertations in Structural and Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Naples. Marianna was also course instructor for "Fundamentals of Seismic Engineering (higher education module for "Expert researcher in monitoring infrastructures") in 2014.
