Dr Richard C Seals started as a lecturer at Middlesex Polytechnic and after three years was promoted to senior lecturer. After a further three years, a move to Thames Polytechnic (now University of Greenwich) lead to promotion to principal lecturer. From that time until now, a period of approximately 24 years, there have been periods as Deputy Head of the School of Engineering, Head of the Electrical Subject Group, Associate Head of the School of Engineering and Deputy Head of the Department of Systems Engineering.

During this period approximately 30+ research publications have been made, plus four books. A number of research grants and consultancies have been held. He is currently part of the team for the EU iMOCCA grant held within the School of Engineering.

Dr Seals has acted as external examiner at Sheffield Hallam University, University of Portsmouth and currently at Birmingham City University.
