Nutrition Faculty of Engineering & Science

Nutritionists are concerned with how food and diet affect our health and body functions, and our physiological and metabolic processes.

Nutritionists therefore play a pivotal role in community health promotion, working with others in primary care to promote better dietary and lifestyle practices, particularly with more vulnerable groups such as young mothers, the elderly and people on low incomes. Other areas of work include government agencies, research, the food industry and food and health journalism.

Our programme ranges from the strongly biochemical/physiological areas of nutrition through to the sociological and psychological aspects. Whichever path you pursue, you will develop a range of skills designed to help you prepare either for employment or further study for higher degrees.

We combine practical training with the application of theoretical knowledge, and have strong links with local industries and healthcare organisations.
