Senior Lecturer, Exercise Physiology

Department of Life & Sports Sciences

Faculty of Engineering & Science

Bettina received her doctorate entitled 'Analysis of Reliability and Validity of Critical Power Testing in the Field' in 2014 from the University of Greenwich. She obtained her BSc Hons in Sport Science and Biology from the University of Hannover/Germany in 1995 and took up a position in a rehabilitation centre for musculo-skeletal rehabilitation while obtaining a taught Master's degree in Exercise Rehabilitation at the School for Physiotherapy in Wuerzburg, Germany.

In 2016 Bettina was invited to the University of Vienna as a visiting professor, and she won the student led Faculty of Engineering and Science teaching award as best personal tutor. She was also the runner-up for the most inspirational teacher and the best project supervisor awards. In February 2017, she received an invitation as visiting professor at the Lunex University in Luxemburg.

With a background in business Bettina set up an exercise rehabilitation and personal training company in Brighton after moving to the UK. A former swimmer and volleyball player, her personal interest was focused on injuries of the shoulder and lower back.

In 2003 she joined the University of Greenwich as a Lecturer in Sport and Exercise Physiology and in 2006 she completed her Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE). She was promoted to Senior Lecturer in 2005. Her current research areas focus on endurance performance and endurance testing, strength and conditioning of athletes and general exercise rehabilitation.
