How to Apply
Applications can be made on a university application form. Please complete fully and attach all academic transcripts, proof of English language and if required references.
To help you do this, there are some general guidelines on this page that apply to most countries. In addition, there are Country pages to which you can go that specify the entry requirements needed from that country, plus the contact details of our representatives who will be able to offer you advice on applying and on any visa requirements.
What Happens Next?
When the application form is received, the International Office will need to consider your whole profile in order to make an assessment of your suitability for the programme for which you have applied. We will look at your education history, academic and language qualifications, any business experience, references, and your personal statement.
If you meet the entry criteria, you may receive an unconditional offer. If you have yet to meet a condition, such as IELTS of 6.0, or if you have to complete an academic qualification, you will receive a conditional offer of a programme subject to you satisfying that condition.
If you do not meet the requirements, you may be offered a place on a more suitable programme.
If you applied through a representative, the offer will be addressed to you and sent to their office.
You will then need to consider the offer being made. If you wish to accept the offer, and we hope you will, please do so in writing, accompanied by the pre-registration deposit, which secures your place, and which allows you to apply for your guaranteed accommodation.
Entry Requirements
The International Office Country pages (listed in the left column of this page) indicate the normal minimum entry requirements for students from that country. These generally relate to the level (English language, foundation, undergraduate years 1 to 3, Master's) of the programme needed. Specific programmes may carry additional requirements (see below). The normal requirements relate to English language, to academic background, and to professional or business experience (especially for MBA).
English Language
All students will need to satisfy a language requirement. For students whose first language is not English, the minimum level of English is the equivalent to IELTS of 6.0 or TOEFL 213 (cbt), 80 (ibt), or 550 (pbt). Students from other countries such as Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria, and Uganda will need to have the equivalent of GCSE grade C, such as SSCE, KCSE or EACE/UCE grade 3.
Exceptions are to the International Foundation Programmes - IELTS of 4.5 or TOEFL 97 (cbt), or 30 (ibt) or 400 (pbt) - and to the MBA IELTS of 6.5 or TOEFL of 250 (cbt), 100 (ibt), or 600 (pbt).
There are special entry requirements for certain programmes.
A portfolio demonstrating creative ability is needed for programmes such as:
BA Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Garden Design, Design Technology, 3-D Digital Design, Garden and Digital Design, MA Architecture, Garden Design & History, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Landscape Studies, Website Architecture.
The University has a suite of MBA programmes including:

MSc Finance Suite
You do not need an accounting or finance degree or experience for MSc Accounting and Finance, but for the others some background in accounting, finance, banking or information systems is needed depending on the Master's programme for which you are applying. You need only apply for one and may transfer to another, if suitably qualified, when you join.
MSc Computing Suite
No degree or formal training in computing is necessary for MSc Computing and Information Systems.
For the MSc Distributed Computing Systems, or MSc Mobile Computing and Communications, students need a numerate degree with some software development (programming in C or better) experience, or in networking or communications, but a degree in information systems would not be sufficient.
For MSc Internet Technology and e-Commerce, or MSc Internet Technology, a degree in computer science (datacoms, networking, programming, software and hardware systems analysis) with Java or C++ is needed.
For Scientific and Engineering Software Technology, a degree in computing, mathematics, physical science or engineering, all with some scientific computing, is necessary. Details of the new full range of programmes and their associated entry requirements can be found on the website.

Foundation and English Language Programmes
If you do not immediately fulfil the entry requirements (such as language, or if you have less than 13 years of education) for a three-year degree programme, you will normally be considered for alternatives such as:
Four-year extended degree programmes such as Combined Honours; computer systems with software engineering, or computer networking; mechanical, manufacturing systems engineering, industrial automation or mechatronics; electronic, electrical or electrical and electronic engineering; civil engineering; environmental science geography and GIS.
Higher National Diploma (HND) Programmes where you have IELTS of 6.0.

There is also an International Foundation Programme (Advanced) for degree holders who wish to prepare for study at postgraduate level as well as to achieve the equivalent of IELTS of 6.5. Click here for further information.
If you have IELTS of 5.0 or 5.5, you may need to follow a four-week or eight-week summer pre-sessional English course on campus.
If you need to study English language for longer to meet the entry requirements to join degree programmes or IFP you may be offered language tuition at an English language school, off campus, which offers very flexible learning of up to 25 hours per week, for periods ranging from one month to one year. You will receive two separate offer letters.
