Managing your network space IT and Library Services

What is my home area?

Your home area is the area on the network where your profile is stored. Your home area is mapped to your G: drive and can be accessed from any PC you log into. Space is limited on the servers so space is limited in your home area. Allowing files to build up in your home area can result in loss of data and profile corruption. NB. As various system files are stored on your G: drive it is essential that you do not delete or move any files that you do not recognise. If you are at all unsure of a files purpose do not delete it.

Your home area is a private storage area that can only be accessed by you.

The University Shared Drives

As the G: drive has limited space, it is essential to maintain good file management at all times. If you have a large amount of data to store you may wish to use your School shared drives. These are usually mapped to the U: drive and are accessible from any University PC on campus that you are logged in to. Please remember that any files you store on a shared drive are accessible by any person who has the rights to access the folder you store them in. Unlike your G: drive; this is not a private storage area.

NB. As various system files are stored on your G: drive it is essential that you do not delete or move any files that you do not recognise. If you are at all unsure of a files purpose do not delete it.
