Medway School of Pharmacy salutes its postgraduates
Medway School of Pharmacy is celebrating another ‘first’ after six of its students collected the Postgraduate Diploma in General Pharmacy Practice. The students, who were honoured in a ceremony at Rochester Cathedral last week, became the first cohort from the School to complete the Pg Dip GPP programme. The latter is a part-time, Master’s-level course run over three years, designed to equip registered pharmacists with the advanced professional skills and knowledge needed in their careers.

Voyage begins for university Chaplain
Reverend Chris Baker, a chaplain at the University of Greenwich, has set sail around the UK this week to raise money for students facing financial hardship. Chris is sailing on his own Achilles 24 Meltemi boat for the 1,500 mile, 42 day, trip. The boat relies entirely on wind and sea energy to power the onboard systems.

University appoints security studies expert to lead Greenwich Maritime Institute
The University of Greenwich has appointed a security studies expert, Professor Christopher Bellamy, to be the new Director of the Greenwich Maritime Institute (GMI). This multidisciplinary centre for postgraduate teaching, research and consultancy works in the fields of maritime policy, history, economics and labour relations with a particular emphasis on the global nature of modern shipping.

Lottery grant to help improve the lives of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people
The University of Greenwich, the Metro Centre and Ergo Consulting have jointly won funding for research into the needs of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) young people. An award of £500,000 from the Big Lottery Fund Research Programme will be used to fund a national survey across England of 15,000 lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender young people aged 16 to 24.

A research breakthrough at the University of Greenwich has been named as one of the ten most important discoveries to be made in a UK university over the past 60 years. A poll of UK academics has recognised the university’s work on controlling the tsetse fly in Africa, which is helping to combat the fatal disease, sleeping sickness.

University launches new research centre for children, schools and families
A new research centre that draws upon psychological research to help reduce social and educational exclusion, raise youth aspirations and enhance family, community and social well-being will be launched on Friday, June 18. University's Stockwell Street proposals open to public
A public exhibition of design proposals for the University of Greenwich’s new development on Stockwell Street opens on Thursday, July 1. Local residents and businesses have been invited to give feedback on the university’s plans to invest £76 million in a new building on the site, which will be home to a university library, TV studios and the School of Architecture & Construction. This will allow more of the university’s activities to be based in Greenwich, alongside its main campus in the Old Royal Naval College.
