The former Principal of Avery Hill College, Kathleen Jones, has donated £100,000 to help those studying to be teachers at Greenwich, according to the Bexley Mercury and Greenwich Mercury.

Architects Journal and the Wharf reported that Greenwich students had great success at the Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) awards ceremony. Francesco Belfiore and Wynne Leung were named as winners of the top prize for new graduates in the President’s Medals Student Awards for their project Invisible University Library. The pair beat entrants from architecture schools across the globe to win the Bronze Medal for Part 1 (first degree) category. Vladimir Berezovskiy came away with a commendation, also in the new graduates category, for his work Newton’s Third. Another winner was Stefanos Gkougkoustamos who picked up one of three commendations in the Dissertation category for Voices of Shatila.

Greenwich graduate Lady Arabella Lennox-Boyd was the focus of feature in Gardens Illustrated.

Alan Power, Professor of Architecture and Cultural History was a contributor to Art Quarterly. He is also an Honorary Fellow of the Royal Institute of British Architects and Chairman of Pollock’s Toy Museum.

Easier.com website, Caterham Mirror, Dorking Advertiser, Horley & Gatwick Mirror, Leatherhead Advertiser, and Surrey Mirror reported that the Brooking Collection of Architectural Detail was preserving features of historic interest from a dilapidated Victorian house, once owned by St. Andrews school in Leatherhead.

Kent Business reported that bringing the Renishaw Centre for Manufacturing Productivity to Greenwich could hardly be a bigger coup.

Chemistry World reported that Gas technologist and Director of Technology at Air Products PLC, John Irwen, studied for PhD at Greenwich from 1979-85.

Kent Profile reported that Carbon8 won the Times Higher Education Award for their “Outstanding Contribution to Innovation and Technology”.

John Nicolson argued in a letter to Times Higher Education that the proposal to concentrate research funding on a small group of elite universities overlooks many other activities apart from PhD supervision and would lead to the shrinking of UK research.

The Daily Mail, the Education and Food & Drink sections of the Guardian website, Medway Messenger, Medway News, Kent Messenger, Bromley Times, Greenwich Mercury, Bexley Mercury, Bexley Times, Prospect magazine reported that NRI had conducted taste tests into luxury mince pies on behalf of Which? magazine.

Medway Extra and Kent Messenger (Sittingbourne) reported that Dr Richard Gibson had been given a grant to improve the cultivation of sweet potato in Africa.

According to Eureka Report, Don Reynolds from NRI is among the authors of a report looking at why locusts swarm.

The campus hosted a Kent wide maths challenge for local schools according to the Kent Messenger (Sittingbourne) and Medway Messenger.

The campus was one of the locations for a comedy film about football supporters called The Shouting Men, according to the Kent News website.
