Recruitment & Admissions
The Admissions Office processes all applications to the university and its Partner Colleges. These number over 50,000 each year.
The team comprises six Admissions Officers and seven Admissions Administrators who are allocated to processing applications for specific university Schools with some Officers dealing with applications on behalf of several Schools.
When making an offer of a place to a programme the Admissions Team apply entry criteria provided by academic staff from that subject area.
The Despatch Unit (which is part of the Admissions Office) issues computer generated letters automatically to applicants when certain conditions are met. The information sent to applicants include:
- Thank you for applying letter
- Invitation to an interview (if statutory requirement)
- Offer of a place letter or letter confirming application un-successful
- Invitation to Open Days letter
- Lifestyle Guide and information about university accommodation
- Fee assessment request letter
- Fee advice letter
- Visa letter
- Acknowledgement of acceptance letter
- Joining instructions
The Despatch Unit also sends out information to enquirers and materials for use at UK and international fairs.
Aims
The aims of the Office are:
- To recruit enough students to enable the university to achieve its contracts with the HEFCE, TTA and Health Trusts.
- To recruit students in such a way as to maximise student satisfaction and minimise withdrawal and failure.
- To contribute to the university's income by maximising the recruitment of international students.
- To contribute to the university's strategic plans by recruiting to as many programmes as possible.
- To support the university's Schools and Partner Colleges in achieving their recruitment targets.
Future Developments
From 2 November 2009 a paperless admissions processes will be introduced, to streamline the processing of applications and improve monitoring.
Future developments will include improving communication with applicants.
