Trades Unions and Joint Negotiating Committees
The University of Greenwich recognises four trades unions for the purposes of collective bargaining. These are:
The GMB is a campaigning trade union focused on protecting members in their workplaces. It is one of the countries biggest unions and has a very strong membership in the world of education support staff. Greenwich University members are part of the South London Universities Branch. Branch Secretary Barry Lambert and National Officer Sharon Holder are the GMB's lead negotiators during national talks at JNCHES.

The University is committed to working closely with its recognised trades unions and believes that good employee relations result from staff having proper representation. The 'facilities' afforded to trades unions are set out in a Facilities Agreement.
The University has a Joint Negotiating Committee (JNC) comprising Management and Trades Union representatives that normally meets once every term to discuss issues of mutual interest. Until the autumn of 2010, separate JNCs existed for Academic and Support Staff unions. Since the start of the 2010/11 session, a combined JNC has been held comprising both sets of unions.
