Mozilla Firefox

Instructions for configuring your PC to use the University proxy server. These instructions are for broadband connections and Firefox 3 and above.

1. From the Tools menu select Options.

2. Click on the Advanced icon and then the Network tab.

3. Click on Settings.

4. Tick the Manual proxy configuration button.

5. Enter the HTTP Proxy as www-proxy.gre.ac.uk. (If you experience problems using this address type 193.60.48.5 instead of www-proxy.gre.ac.uk)

6. Set Port to 3128.

7. Tick Use this proxy server for all protocols.

8. Click OK.

9. When you next use Firefox, you will initially be prompted to enter your username and  password in order to authenticate your status.

10. When you no longer require to access the restricted resources you may turn off the proxy server by clicking the No proxy button on the Connection settings screen. (See steps 1-3 above).
