Mr. Hatchett is the Head of Pay and Research at Incomes Data Services, a private company publishing information on pay bargaining and pay data from 1978 to 2012. He is also the editor of the IDS Pay Report as well as several annual books of pay and labour market data on the public sector, engineering, retail etc. Mr. Hatchett has been a lead researcher on many bespoke research projects for external clients such as the Low Pay Commission, the Pay Review Bodies, trade unions and employers' bodies.

Responsibilities within the university

  • Organising research seminars for the Work and Employment Research Unit
  • Mentoring Economics staff and doctoral students on the use of UK labour statistics.
  • Assisting HROB staff in research and access to organisations.
  • Advising on staff and doctoral research projects.

Awards

Continued relationships with the Low Pay Commission, the Office of Manpower Economics, the TUC and the Office for National Statistics.

Current research:
Developments in pay and earnings in the UK, collective bargaining coverage in the private sector of the UK. Developments in UK public sector pay determination.
