Tomás Rotta joined the University of Greenwich in September 2014. He holds a PhD in Economics from the University of Massachusetts, USA; an MSc in Economic Development and a BS in Business Management from the University of São Paulo, Brazil. Tomás is a member of the Greenwich Political Economy Research Centre (GPERC) and of Reteaching Economics UK.

In his research, Tomás specialises in Political Economy, growth theory, monetary theory, and history of economic thought. His focus has been on the growth of unproductive activities, the commodification of knowledge, the contending concepts of money, the causes and consequences of income inequality, and on theories of value and distribution. In his research, he uses heterodox approaches, applied econometrics, economic modelling, input-output matrices, and computer simulations.

Tomás has teaching experience in microeconomics (post-graduate and undergraduate), macroeconomics, game theory, international economics, money and banking, and history of economic thought.
