University of Greenwich leads in conservation
Date of release: Wednesday, December 16, 2009
Ecology and conservation students studying at the University of Greenwich at Medway and one of the UK’s leading environmental consultancies have been recognised by the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM) for their partnership.
The Institute shortlisted the partnership between the university and Entec UK in the finals of its Best Practice award, which singles out outstanding work done in studying and preserving wildlife, plants and trees.
The award was accepted by senior lecturer in environmental and conservation, Debbie Bartlett, who has been instrumental in preparing students to enter the profession on graduation. Last year Entec UK placed students in work experience and offered full-time employment to two graduates from University of Greenwich at Medway.
Debbie said: “I was delighted on behalf of the university and Entec to be awarded this trophy. It is a reward for all the hard work done on the ongoing collaboration between the university and Entec to produce competent new entrants to the profession.
“Ours is a working model which demonstrates to other universities and consultancies how skills gaps in the industry may be effectively met.”
Ms Bartlett divides her time between lecturing and running her own consultancy business in Canterbury. She too has recently been personally honoured by the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management, which has awarded her a fellowship – one of only eight women fellows at the institute.
