Drug delivery breakthrough

A team of scientists led by Dr Simon Richardson at the University of Greenwich has got a step closer to one of the holy grails of drug delivery. The goal – to find a vehicle that can carry drugs not just to a specific cell but a specific organ (organelle) inside the cell, and accurately measure how it behaves when it gets there – has proved elusive despite two decades of research, according to the Journal of Controlled Release, a top international scientific publication.

Tunnel vision helps students improve racing car design

Students at the Leigh Technology Academy will have a distinct advantage when they race their electric cars in the national schools’ Greenpower competitions, thanks to the University of Greenwich at Medway. Fourteen sixth-formers from the Dartford academy learned how to put models of their latest electric car designs to the test in the university’s wind tunnel in a bid to improve the aerodynamics of their vehicles.

University on a mission to cut carbon

A University of Greenwich at Medway chemist developing innovative ways of generating clean fuel to cut UK carbon emissions has been invited to join a national knowledge transfer partnership mission to Germany and Switzerland. Dr Bruce Alexander is using nanotechnology to create hydrogen for electricity using water, solar energy and tiny particles from a range of chemicals such as titanium dioxide, which is found in paints and toothpastes.
