Clearing stories
John Humphreys gave 15 radio interviews to a wide range of broadcasters from local stations including Invicta (Kent), KMFM (Medway), Time FM (South East London), BBC Radio Guernsey, Minster FM (York), Colourful (National Soul Station), Oxford’s FM107.9, Quay (Portsmouth), Fresh Radio (Yorkshire Dales), Touch (Coventry) BBC Radio Gloucestershire, Moray Firth Radio (Inverness), BBC Radio Ulster, Swansea Sound and to national Sky News Radio which supplies the bulletins to stations such as LBC, Virgin and Talk Sport.
BBC London BBC1's regional TV news ran two reports from the University of Greenwich Clearing room on the first day. Lorri Currie, Head of Student Finance, appeared live on the lunchtime bulletin, talking about financial support available for students in the capital. The tea-time TV news featured another interview with Lorri and also with Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Margaret Noble, talking about employment opportunities for students.
Bev Woodhams was interviewed in the Clearing room by a reporter from the Capital Group, which supplies bulletins to Capital Radio, Classic FM and Choice FM.
Stuart Ashenden gave advice in the Independent about retakes. He said that there should be no prejudice against retakes if they are taken for the right reasons.
The Independent and Independent on Sunday mentioned Greenwich as one of the few universities that don’t charge to maximum ‘top up’ fees in an article about student finance.

The Independent Clearing Guide included a plug for Greenwich's new PR degree as part of a feature on new courses.
Law & Sociology student, Louise Grimmett, explained how she found a place in Greenwich through Clearing in the Daily Mail. Louise was also interviewed by the Brentwood Gazette.
The new marketing campaign for Greenwich using advertising at Arsenal, Fulham and West Ham football clubs together with Myspace and bebo websites was reported on by the Times Higher Education Supplement and the Medway Messenger. The article also had the Clearing helpline contact details.
The Guardian also ran an interview with singer Natasha Bedingfield about her time studying Psychology at Greenwich.
Education Studies student, Rosemarie Sullivan, and Pharmacy student, Tauriq Mehkary, explained how they got places at Greenwich through Clearing in the Guardian.
The Guardian said that ‘Greenwich said the first courses to be filled were those in primary education and nursing’ in an article on Clearing.

According to The London Paper a record number of people called the Clearing hotline at Greenwich and there were a ‘staggering 18,000 hits’ on the university website on the first day. Greenwich Architecture student Vanisha Varsani explained how well Clearing had worked for her.
According to the Medway Messenger and Medway Extra the message to students who don’t make their A level grades is don’t panic and advice is available through the Clearing Helpline.
The Clearing hotline was now open and the campus was offering open days and campus tours according to the Medway Standard.
A new university guide is being distributed to all Medway households according to the Medway Standard, KM Extra, Kentish Saturday Observer, Kent on Sunday and Medway Messenger. The story also mentions the Clearing hotline. The guide was also sent out in Swale and Gravesham according to the Faversham Times and East Kent Gazette and in Gravesend according to the Gravesend Reporter.

The Times Higher Education Supplement, Medway Messenger and Medway Extra reported that Greenwich has appointed Professor Tom Barnes as Pro Vice-Chancellor, Research & Enterprise. He is currently Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) of the University of Auckland in New Zealand.
The Observer listed Baroness Howells as sixth in a list of Top Ten Black Women referring to her as the first female member of the Court of Governors of the University of Greenwich.
According to the Times Higher Education Supplement the universities of Greenwich and Kent have appointed Iain Cumming, former European vice-president, research and development and quality at IVAX Pharmaceuticals, as head of Medway School of Pharmacy and Pfizer Chair of Pharmacy.
The London Paper reported that Greenwich provide a BSc in Animal Management (this course is provided by one of Greenwich’s partner colleges, Hadlow College) in an article about zoo-keeping as a career.
Meridian reported on the award of an honorary degree to Lord (Paddy) Ashdown.
The Guardian reported that Greenwich was not one of the universities saying that students must make them their first choice in order to qualify for extra cash bursaries.
South East Business publicised the launch of Business Information Technology and Enterprise (BITE) which will deliver courses at the University Centre Folkestone and Medway.
Greenwich student Desiree Brown performed backing vocals for a debut single by singing security firm boss, Chris Purcell, according to the Newham Recorder and Ilford Recorder.

Jay Bola, a basketball player, from Greenwich won the high jump for the Highgate Harriers at the Southern League Division One athletic meeting according to the Camden New Journal.
An article in the Independent about student finances said that Greenwich was among the few universities that were not charging the full rate for the top-up fee.
The Times Good University Guide 2008 carried two large captioned photos of students studying in the School of Architecture & Construction. The paper also lists Greenwich in the Top 10 for Ethnic Minorities (6th) and on its website puts us in the Top 10 for Mature Students (7th).

Business
Meridian reported that students Samantha Stagg and Simon Jones have been impressing AEG bosses while on a three month work placement at the O2.
The Independent included the new Public Relations degree in a story about new degree courses.
The Ulster TV website said that research by David Hall for the union NIPSA found that the operating costs of Northern Ireland Water Company accounted for 27% of the operating budget over the next seven years.

The Ulster Herald publicised Mairead McClean’s latest exhibition called bell(a)exchange at the Void Gallery in Derry. The exhibition highlights the important role of communication systems and technologies in the lives of diasporic communities.

OS magazine (Office Secretary) described Devonport House as ‘on the prestigious World Heritage site at Greenwich, alongside the University of Greenwich and the National Maritime Museum.’

The Bromley, Bexley, Lewisham & Greenwich News Shopper said that Polish student Joanna Szulda had been offered a job by architecture practice BPTW Partnership after they pinned a business card to her work which was displayed during the end of year architecture show at the Greenwich campus.
In Building Design Tom Turner reviewed the latest exhibition at the Museum of Garden History which explores the search for a new contemporary garden in Hadspen House in Somerset.
According to Construction National an entry from the University of Greenwich was highly commended in the 2007 EcoHouse Design competition sponsored by the Concrete Centre in association with Architectural Press and Teachers in Architecture.
A profile of Richard Labrador, Gibraltar’s sole certified safety expert, in Vox – the Rock of Gibraltar news online, said that he had a Masters degree in Occupational Safety and Health at Greenwich.

The Medway Messenger, KM Extra, Your County website and Medway News reported that student George Newman is heading for the World Transplant Games in Thailand next month.
The Victorian prehistoric animal sculptures in Crystal Palace that were restored with advice from former Professor of Geosciences Peter Doyle have been upgraded as Grade I according to the Polish based Media Net website.

Your Family Tree and Ancestors said that the campus was hosting a conference on naval ancestors.
Kent Science Park, which is supported by Greenwich and others, is providing fifteen scholarships for a Life Science Technology and Bio-Manufacturing according to the East Kent Gazette and Faversham Times. The Confederation of British Industry and Institute of Directors have praised the initiative.
Greenwich was mentioned as part of the Universities at Medway campus in an article in the Medway Standard and Medway Messenger about the start of construction of the neighbouring Mid Kent College campus.
Medway Extra said that the Creativity in the Community event in the Chatham Historic Dockyard was organised by Greenwich and others. UCCA were the lead organiser.
Young people in care had a taste of higher education in a three day course organised at the campus by Will Calver according to the Medway Messenger.
There was a large article in the Medway News marking the 90th anniversary of the bombing of the Drill Hall building by German bombers. The article included a large photo of Professor Alan Reed and the replacement interior plaque.
King Hill
The Kings Hill conference and training centre has increased the number of rooms available for meetings and conferences according to South East Business.
Kings Hill hosted a seminar for the key empty property personnel from all 12 district councils across Kent according to Property People Focus.
