What the Papers Say July 2006

General university news

(Individual campus news follows below)

The Times, Daily Telegraph, Daily Mail and Daily Mirror reported that a couple who moved house from Eltham to near Bath took their garden with them. According to the reports their house was sold to the University of Greenwich for development which was not interested in their garden. This refers to a property bought by Greenwich more than six years ago when the university was looking at developing the Nursery site and improving access from Bexley Road.

Sue Adams, Director of Estates explains: “When the house came up for sale we bought it and they asked if they could take their plants with them. This is normal practice when a house is sold, if the vendor wishes to remove plants as long as they ask and the purchaser agrees. It was subsequently let to by some of our Postgraduate students and later a member of staff. Around three years ago it was deemed to be surplus to our requirements and sold to a private individual.”
