Articles in the Guardian and Times Higher Education Supplement about the new President of Universities UK said that Professor Rick Trainor was the former Vice-Chancellor of Greenwich.

“You could say that our bursary is built in…..However on top of that we also give £500 to all students who qualify for an element of the means tested grant.” Said Lorri Currie, Head of Student Finance, in an article about student bursaries in the Independent. The article was accompanied by a large photo of two students at the Greenwich campus.

The Daily Mail reported Natasha Bedingfield as saying that, ‘her reason for studying psychology at the University of Greenwich was to add depth to her song lyrics.

'I wanted to write about relationships,' she says. 'But I didn't feel I had the experience to sing about them in a deep way. Studying psychology helped me out in terms of my understanding. I still look through my old textbooks when I'm in need of inspiration.'

The award of an honorary degree to Annette Doherty, Director of Pfizer’s Laboratories, by Greenwich was reported by Kent Business.

Kent Director reported that new research from Greenwich reveals that many A-level students are misinformed about university tuition fees.

The Folkestone Herald said that the University Centre Folkestone was being jointly run by Greenwich and Canterbury Christ Church. The Kentish Express and Folkestone Herald publicised an Open Day at the centre.

Kent Life reported that new students will be arriving at the University Centre Folkestone which is jointly run by Greenwich and Canterbury Christ Church this month.

Andy Jackson who graduated from Greenwich in 2005 is a photographer who is one of a group of artists exhibiting at the Signals 5 Art Festival in Crystal Palace according to the Streatham, Clapham and Dulwich Post.

According to the Herne Bay Gazette and Canterbury Extra aspiring model and former Herne Bay High pupil, Amy Bryce, is about to study an HND in Animal Science hopes to eventually study at Greenwich.

The Wharf reported that ‘An amazing resource with the talents of 10,000 and 80,000 students is available to businesses in Docklands’. Tex Dunstan from Greenwich, who is a business advisor for the KnowledgeEast consortium arranged for a student from the University of East London to give an IT and design makeover to virtual golf company, City Bunker.

The Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kent & Sussex Courier reported on the graduation ceremony for K College, mentioning their partnership with Greenwich.

An article in Building magazine about Roger de Haan’s vision for Folkestone mentioned the University Centre Folkestone.

Jessica Randal from the Cayman Islands is currently on a government scholarship at Greenwich studying in Advertising and Marketing Communication according to Cayman Net News.

School of Science

Pat Harvey appeared on More4 News during a report on protests in Italy about huge increases in pasta prices following rocketing wheat prices. She pointed out that the planned increase in bio-fuels will inevitably have an effect on food prices.

The Greenwich & Charlton News Shopper, Medway Messenger, Kentish Saturday Observer and Kent on Sunday reported on the success of Biosciences student, George Newman, at the World Transplant Games in Bangkok. George won four gold medals, two silvers and was part of the Men’s Relay Medley team which set a new world record.

John Green from Harvey Grammar School for Boys is planning to study Sports Science at Greenwich according to the Folkestone Herald.

The Southend Evening Echo and Thurrock Gazette reported that Mark Couldridge who is in his third year of a Geography degree at Greenwich is one half of the UK’s first test tube twins.

According to the Ugandan based website Monitor Dr Sendagire, a lecturer of Microbiology at Makerere University Medical School, recently been awarded a PhD previously studied for a Masters Degree in Clinical Chemistry at Greenwich.

Natural Resources Institute

Peter Burt was interviewed on Invicta FM about the collaboration with the new Kebbi State University in Nigeria. The project included 32 students studying at the campus according to the Medway News.

A recent NRI survey showed that many seafood companies in Vietnam already have brand names and were unwilling to change their names according to the Vietnam News website. Vietnam is building strategies to develop brand names for its major seafood products, such as shrimp, catfish, tuna and pangasius, according to a government official.

General campus news

Young people in care had a taste of higher education in a three day course organised at the campus by Will Calver according to the KM Extra, Kentish Saturday Observer and Kent on Sunday.

Local sixth-form pupils were given a glimpse into higher education through a series of campus visits according to the Medway Messenger.

The history of the Victoria Cross is the subject of the latest Pembroke lecture according to the Medway Messenger (twice) and Medway News.

The campus hosted a crisis meeting over Medway’s development plans according to the Medway Messenger.

Kent Family History Society are organising a conference at the campus according to the Peninsula Times magazine.

The Medway Messenger reported that the summer play scheme at the campus had again been a great success.

According to Your Medway and Medway News the Medway Innovation Centre on Rochester Industrial Estate, which is a joint venture with BAe Systems, Royal Bank of Scotland, Medway Council and the University of Kent, is approaching 50 per cent capacity.

South East Business said that Greenwich is supporting teaching at the Kent Science Resource Centre.
