Student wins Recognition Day award
Graphic Design student Lauren Algeo has won an award for her design to celebrate Recognition Day, the day to let people know we appreciate them.
Lauren’s design has been turned into a postcard and sent out to thousands of people in a ‘Recognition Day’ pack. The design shows nine classic “recogestures” like a pat on the back, a high five and a kiss.
Local design company Cog Design which is behind the national day, and the awards, says, “Genuine praise is wonderful to receive and simple to give, but none of us do it enough. We want everyone to take a few minutes out of their day to tell others that they appreciate them.” Sending a postcard is just one way to do that.
Lauren, a BA Graphic & Digital Design student at the School, says: “I wanted to show the physical ways in which a person can show recognition. I’m really pleased to have won the award. I took my portfolio to Cog last week and am going to do three weeks work experience with them in June.” Lauren will receive £500 as well as the work placement with Cog Design, which is based at Greenwich Centre Business Park.
Programme leader Nickie Hirst says: “This is a fantastic achievement for Lauren and it is great to see companies like Cog taking a direct interest in design graduates. The BA Hons in Graphic & Digital Design is a modular design programme reflecting the diversity of the graphic design industry: each student is encouraged to find their own creative pathway, be it typography or animation.
