Landscape & Environmental Design

The Landscape and Environmental Design Research Group

The Landscape and environmental design research group is established to promote an advanced professional research, practice and consultancy in this field. Led by Tom Turner and Robert Holden, the group has developed significantly through Turner's publication of City as Landscape. This was awarded the prestigious Landscape Institute Communication Award in 1998 and, apart from being favourably reviewed, has quickly established a reputation for being the key text in its field. Holden is Secretary General of the European Foundation for Landscape Architecture and his work is related to landscape design international and the profession in Europe. PhD students involved in this group includes Kotzen Benz (An analysis of the use of indigenous desert plants in Israel for landscape design) and Tuan Anh Nguyen (GIS application for landscape planning and management in Ho Chi Minh city urbanisation).
