Referred / Deferred Coursework and Examination Advice for Students Summer 2011
Who should use this web page?
This web site is only for students who are based at the School of Architecture, Design & Construction at Avery Hill and Medway. It does not apply to students in partner colleges, in partner institutions or on distance learning programmes.
How do I know whether I am required to submit work for reassessment in the summer?
You will receive a result letter. If you have failed a course or part of a course and have been allowed by the Progression and Award Board to be reassessed in one or several of the courses, this will be indicated in your result letter. On the back of the result letter, the words "Failed -retake permitted before the next academic year" will appear next to the relevant assessment items or course(s).
In that case, you are required to submit coursework and/or to take an examination again as appropriate in August 2011.
How to use this web page
Courses are listed in course code order. Please click on the course code to download the document outlining reassessment requirements for the course.
All documents are in PDF format. To view a file in PDF format, you need Adobe Reader, a free application distributed by Adobe Systems.
What if there is no document attached to a course?
This could mean either that there are no students referred or deferred in August for that course, or the document has not been posted on this website yet (we aim to post all relevant documents by mid-July 2011).
If you know you have to submit work for August but cannot find the document relating to that course, or you have any other queries regarding your results, please email the school at

All enquiries must give:
- Your full name
- Your student ID number
- Your Programme of Study e.g. BA Architecture
- The title and code of the course(s) with which you have a query
- The nature of your query.

What is the deadline for submitting coursework for reassessment?
All coursework and portfolios must be submitted by Monday 15 August 2011 at 4.00pm. Full details of how to submit (including by post) are given on the brief for each course.
Please note that students studying at Medway may submit at Medway on 15th August. Early submissions to Medway must be by prior arrangement with Shelagh Barker
When are the re-sit examinations?
The detailed examination timetable will be posted on the University Examination website. Deferred / referred examinations should be timetabled between 15th and 26th August 2011
Deadline for Claiming Extenuating Circumstances:
Coursework and Portfolios:
Monday 8th August 2011 before 4 pm
Examinations:
If on the day of your examination, you are unable to attend and you have not yet submitted an extenuating circumstances form, you must telephone the school office on 0208 331 9300 before the start of the exam. Approval for non-attendance at your examination is subject to submission to the School, within 5 working days, of a completed extenuating circumstances form together with written supporting evidence from a medical practitioner.
Late claims for extenuating circumstances will not be accepted.
What if my Header Sheet is not showing on Banner?
Make sure that the term selection is for 2010/11, as the default year will change to next year (2011/12) at the end of July. If you still cannot find the header sheet, please email:

Why are there so many header sheets?
You will have available to you header sheets for all courses to which you are attached. This does not mean that you have to submit work for every course! You only need to submit work for courses in which you have been referred/deferred to August 2011; your result letter will show you which these courses are, please check it carefully.
