Head of Department, BITE

Welcome to the Business Information Technology and Enterprise Department (BITE) the department where technology meets, and means, business. As modern business enterprises make use of an increasingly large range of technology so the skills and knowledge associated with developing, deploying, managing and administering this technology in the pursuit of enterprise grows. Our mission is to create confident, competent graduates who understand what technology can provide and who can choose to develop or deploy it for business value. All our programmes have a balance of technical, managerial and administration subject matter depending upon the programme of study. Our graduate offer ranges from the highly technical Information and Communications Technology through the Information Technology Management for Business and Business Technology Management programmes to the Business Administration suite.

BITE is a collaborative venture between the university’s and Schools of Engineering and Business which gives the department unique access to the cross section of Engineering, Technology and Business techniques with capabilities that are increasingly joined in today’s enterprises. In addition this link means that we uniquely know what technology is coming long before business gets to see it.

BITE takes employability very seriously and as such we orient many of our courses around industry sponsored projects alongside developing those interpersonal skills that employers find valuable. These projects come from companies large and small some you will have heard of and others you won’t, in the 2010-2011 session students undertook projects for companies including:

IBM, CA, Beams International, The Golden Boot, Cap Gemini, Microsoft, Delloite, Community Infopoint, Procter and Gamble, Network rail and many others.

Research and Enterprise driven Teaching and Learning is fundamental to our work ensuring that our students have access to leading ideas and knowledge at the forefront of technological applications for business. This includes work on e-business and commerce, digital eco systems for small business, project management systems, computationally intensive knowledge management activities such as data mining for marketing and multimedia electronics & systems for things like 3D product imaging.

Our students talk about what they get up to on our Facebook page (Launched June 2011).
