29th November 2011 - Guru Lecture - Matthew Johnson, Barclays Capital UK
‘The Importance of Getting IT Contracts right from a Service Delivery Perspective’ In organisations such as Barclays, technology is increasingly underpinning the critical day to day operations and providing a business with competitive advantage. Where IT services are delivered by a 3rd party, it is important that the right focus is placed on ensuring that the suppliers deliver services which align to the requirements and objectives of the organisation. In this lecture, Matthew will highlight how the contracts with suppliers can help or hinder the delivery, performance and management of IT services. Matthew will share the lessons he learnt through defining and negotiating the service elements of contracts and then managing a supplier’s delivery performance - especially when things do not
go as planned.

16th November 2011 - ITMB All Student Annual Event - Manchester
Students from the IT Management for Business (ITMB) attended the Annual Student Event on 16th November 2011 at Manchester, UK sponsored by IBM. They also took part in various competitions and employer led activities throughout the day. The event had been a huge success for the teams/students from BITE, University of Greenwich within the competitions.
- 1st Year Competition - ITMB Team 1 from Greenwich led by 1st year ITMB student Ms. Sara Al-Badri and group members came as runners up within the competition taking prizes sponsored by Credit Sussie.

2nd Year Competition - There were two teams (Team A - led by Corrina Hawkins and group and Team B - led by Matthew Long). Team A took the top prize of the day in the IBM sponsored smarter planet competition. Their concept was to generate power from the flow of London’s sewage as it makes its way from the city to the two eastern most processing plants at Becton and Cross Ness. In taking away the prize of £1000 and beating teams from Northumbria, Sheffield, Manchester, UCL, Oxford
Brookes and the University of the West England -
On Spot Prizes- There were also “On Spot Prizes” awarded to Ms. Corrina Hawkins (2nd year ITMB) for £150 cash vouchers from IBM and Mr. Matthew Long (2nd year ITMB) for £100 cash prize from PWC for providing a great impression and participating with different activities throughout the day.

‘Knowledge Management Implementation Problems and How to Overcome them’ In this lecture and first of its kind ever on the ITMB Guru Lecture series, we are delighted to have Prof. Dawson who will present his experiences with industry including a series of industry case studies.
18th October 2011 - Guru Lecture - John Barraclough, Procter and Gamble UK (P&G)
‘How Businesses use Situational Leadership to develop individuals and for them to develop others’. In this lecture John will give an introduction to the concept of Situational Leadership. He will talk through a standard model which is used in and out of companies to help people on their own development and development of others in their environment.
12th October 2011 - GET Event/Employability Event
Guidance and Employability Team (GET) at Medway organised the “GET Opportunities Event 2011” on the 12th Oct 2011 at Medway Campus to provide the students with the opportunity to further explore their prospects for graduate, part time work, summer & year placements, work experience or volunteering opportunities. There were also networking opportunities for prospective entrepreneurs to discuss about their business ideas at the workshop. There were around 32 employers and businesses that were there to provide the students with guidance and employability tips. There was a lot of interest and enthusiasm from BITE, School of Engineering students, and the employers were really impressed by the level of professionalism shown by our students.
19th September 2011 - BITE Welcomes its New and Continuing Students
On the 19th September 2011, BITE - School of Engineering opened its doors to welcome and greet the new wave of its students. The day was filled with lot of activities and involvement for the students, and students certainly felt "right at home". Students from different parts and across different paths of life joined hands and started their journey's for the next 3 years with the department.
For the BITE staff it was again something of an exciting journey and looking forward to being part of their students success.
September 2011 - BITE Welcomes New Colleagues
Business Information Technology & Enterprise (BITE) Welcomes New Academic colleagues Dr. Rama Kanungo as Senior Lecturer in Business Finance and Dr. Andriew Lim as Lecturer for E-Business and Innovation within the department.
6th May 2011 - Microsoft Protege Competitions
Students from 1st year IT Management for Business programme (ITMB) participated in the Microsoft Protege UK competitions where they were asked to provide "Marketing Insight" into ways how the new Windows Phone 7 series smartphone could be marketed to UK tertiary students.
Out of a number of submissions for the competitions to Microsoft, "Team Greenwich" were shortlisted in the final seven teams. These finalists were invited to Microsoft HQ in Reading on the 6th May 2011 where they were asked to present their ideas, vision and plans to a group of judges which included Senior people from Microsoft.
Team Greenwich took the runners up title of the competition, where they were praised and commended for their unique and innovative ideas and approach towards marketing the product.
9th March 2011 - ITMB All Student Annual Event - Computer Associates, UK
Students from the IT Management for Business (ITMB) attended the annual student event on 9th March 2011 at Computer Associates (CA) HQ in Slough, UK. They also took part in various competitions and employer led activities throughout the day. The event had been a huge success for the teams/students from BITE, University of Greenwich within the competitions.
- 1st Year Competition - ITMB Team 1 and Team 2 from Greenwich won with a combined unanimous decision from the panel of six employer judges. They won the prestigious ITMB/E-Skills Student Trophy for their prize.
- 2nd Year Competition - ITMB Team comprising of 2nd year ITMB students came runner-up at 2nd position out of six teams participating for the competition.
- CA Student of the Day - The host for the day - Computer Associates organised the "student of the day" competition which was again won by Matthew Long (1st year ITMB student). Matt will be the acting CEO/Director of CA for one day.
