Many staff in the School of Education and Training are involved in research, scholarship, enterprise and consultancy. There is a collaborative and supportive ethos for research and enterprise in the School, which prides itself on good relationships with external educational partners. Current areas of research include Leadership and Management; Higher Education (HE) and Further Education (FE) Strategic Management and Policy; Student Experience Initiatives; Vocational Education and Training (VET) and the History of VET; Complexity Studies; Professionalism; Adult Literacy Policy; Secondary and Primary School Improvement; English, Music, Mathematics and Science Education; Special Education; e-Learning; ICT; Art and Design; Design and Technology Education; Youth Education, Childhood Studies, Play, and other specialist interests in Post-Compulsory and HE.
The School offers PhD and MPhil research degrees in Education, a Doctorate in Education (EdD) programme and several Master's courses, all of which have major research components. Our successful doctoral programme provides doctoral studies for more than 70 students.
Our partnerships with the numerous schools and colleges who work with us to train students are very important to the School. We are fortunate in having close, long standing relationships with many other universities, funding agencies, schools, colleges, local authorities, development agencies and individual members of staff who support research and enterprise partnerships in London, Kent and a range of other regional, national and international locations.
Research and Enterprise (R&E) is one of three cross-School directorates and is led by the Director of Research and Enterprise, Dr Jill Jameson. R&E oversees the research and enterprise work of all School of Education and Training staff and research degree students. The School Research and Enterprise Committee meet three times a year, reporting to School Board. Education and Training R&E is represented on the University of Greenwich Research and Enterprise Committee, University Research Ethics Committee, Research Degrees Committee and various other R&E university groups.
