Computer & Communications Engineering

Welcome from the Head of Department

Dr David Armour-Chelu, BEng, PhD

Welcome to our website ...

Communication Engineers are the people who provide the infrastructure for communication between individuals and organisations. Try to imagine a world in which all forms of communication have been removed; no television, no radio, no telephones, no internet, no sat-nav ... what would it be like?

Inconvenient? Difficult? Impossible? Well, things would probably be awkward at first, but it wouldn't take long for chaos to descend. And just imagine the international consequences! I hope to have convinced you that communication is not just a luxury we have become accustomed to, but in fact the adhesive which binds human society into a functioning entity.

Tomorrow's communication engineers will be required to maintain and operate the systems we have inherited from the past, as well as design and build new systems to meet the challenges of the future. Our department aims to attract young people into this profession, and to produce highly employable graduates, suitably trained in all aspects of communication science and technology.

Small Satellite DishThis aim is specifically included in the department's mission statement and supported by a strategic action plan. We strive to attract high calibre students and educate them to be creative, good communicators, skilled at solving problems and delivering results. Because we work in partnership with local, national, and international employers, students can be assured of a high potential for employability.
