Want To Be An Engineer?

What Is An Engineer?

An engineer can be defined as someone who uses their skills and knowledge to make or mend things, resulting in a broad spread of individual job descriptions.

In the suburbs, he/she might be a person who comes to repair your satellite tv system, or do the annual safety inspection on your central heating equipment (see footnote). Some of these people might be university trained, but we encourage our graduates to seek more challenging careers!

To the day-dreaming schoolchild, it may mean someone famous like Isambard Brunel or George Stephenson, a great inventor or designer who used new ideas to build new things or old things in a different way.

Whatever your idea of an engineer might be, we can assume that you want to be one or perhaps you know someone who does ... and if you want to become an engineer, you've come to the right place!

Here at the School of Engineering of the University of Greenwich we have trained thousands of engineering students over the years. Our four departments cover the whole spectrum of information-age engineering, and we pride ourselves on being able to offer programmes designed to meet the requirements of business and industry, thus ensuring high employability of our graduates.

Footnote: in many countries the title "engineer" is protected by law and can only be used by university graduates or members of certain professional bodies.
