Female Engineering Students

Even in the 21st century, female engineering students and graduates are still less common than their male counterparts, so here at the University of Greenwich we are anxious to remove any barriers (whether real or imaginary) that might encourage or tend to perpetuate this statistic.

It is our intention to make all branches of engineering equally attractive to both male and female students. So if you are keen to learn, and have the necessary entrance qualifications, please let us assure you that it doesn't matter to us whether you are male or female.

We do have quite a few young women enrolled on our programmes, and also several female members of academic staff. All members of staff (both male and female) will be pleased to offer encouragement and support to female students and intended students.

The School of Engineering stands behind and is fully committed to supporting the aims of the Women's Engineering Society (WES). The WES:

  • promotes the education, training and practice of engineering among women;
  • increases public awareness of the contribution women can make to engineering;
  • provides a forum for the exchange of opinions and experience respecting education, training and employment for women with interests in engineering;
  • sustains contacts with women engineers on career breaks and facilitates their return to paid employment by keeping them informed of progress within the profession;
  • ensures the voice of women engineers is heard during the deliberations of Government and policy-making institutions;
  • raises the profile and effectiveness of women engineers by forming links and networking with other women's organisations.
