“Studying maritime history as a mature student with a marine background has greatly enlarged my knowledge of other maritime perspectives, beyond the focus of the operation of ships and seafarers.  It has given me a sense of fulfilment that combines the skills of a practising mariner with the academic experience that is an education in the structures of maritime development.”

Patrick Fairplay, MA Maritime History

"As a GMI student you are part of a truly maritime learning environment which encourages the exchange of ideas and the understanding of all things maritime from a professional as well as academic point of view"

Chris Parry, MA Maritime Policy

“A tremendously stimulating, encouraging, and challenging environment in which to undertake maritime studies that owes much to the quality of its course modules designed by its Director and excellent teaching staff. All-in-all a thoroughly recommended and worthwhile place for the serious student of international maritime history, an area that is now becoming recognised as increasingly important for a better understanding of world history.”

Ken Cozens, MA Maritime History

"To be a student of Maritime History in the Year of Nelson of all times, and be studying this at Greenwich of all places was simply a brilliant experience: as I have said "you can lick Britain's naval history from the walls of these magnificent buildings." Seldom has the whole country been made more sharply aware of its naval traditions than in this bi-centenary year, and to be mingling at this time with some of Britain's foremost maritime historians made one feel a privileged insider."

Brian James, MA Maritime History

“The GMI courses here are composed in a compact way, which gives me plenty of time for writing coursework .  The things we are taught are firmly linked to today's maritime world.”

Yili He, MA Maritime Policy
